Interview with Suzie Night

Interview by Suzy Knight Author Interviews and tagged Awesome Author Leeann Roberts Issue January 2021 Today’s Interview is with Leeann Roberts author of The Immortal Magic Trilogy. Let’s start the interview with a very personal question – What book do you consider your “guilty pleasure read”? I don’t have a guilty pleasure read as such because having a “guilty pleasure read” would imply I spend the rest of my time reading Chaucer, Faulkner and authors like that which I don’t. I do love historical novels about Anne Boleyn which my husband James thinks is hilarious as even though they are all based around the timeline of Anne’s life to death the interactions with people are made up for our pleasure so he laughs and says things like “are you reading another book about someone Anne Boleyn may or may not have met” Sometimes when I have a million and one things to do I skulk off to read if I’m reading one of those books I just can’t put down so I guess that would be a guilty pleasure because I’m feeling guilty about reading for pleasure when I should be doing other things. I think we’ve all felt like that at some point. And how do the rest of your family feel about it all happening? Well over the moon obviously, but surreal. Ive been lucky enough to have the best parents anyone could wish for. They have supported through everything and picked me up when something fell apart. I couldnt love them more. Maggie and big George you are legends. -What book was most influential in your decision to become a writer yourself? I have always been an avid reader, ever since childhood when my Mum would encourage me to read whatever genre I loved. My English teacher in primary school told her my reading was advanced and to get me to read classics but my mum’s opinion was let me read what I want and it will keep me reading all my life and she was right, so thanks to that philosophy no one book influenced me to write but rather a multitude of reading experiences fired my imagination. So i studied English Literature and Creative writing and achieved a BA Honours degree. -If you could only read one sub-genre for the rest of your life, which genre would you choose and why? That’s a tough one as a love many genres but if I had to choose then I would say paranormal as I love books like vampire romance hence why I wrote my own. I also love Stephen King, he's my favourite amd on the opposite end of the spectrum Martina Cole. Let us turn the focus back to your writing- what is your favourite part of writing? The end… hahah only joking. My favourite part of writing is when your story takes a turn you didn’t plan for and surprises you. As an author of a trilogy I had every book planned beginning to end, I knew where the story was going and how it’s going to end but every now and then my characters would do something unexpected and it is the greatest feeling. The first time this happened I was in the zone typing away my story and suddenly stopped because I realised I hadn’t planned what I’d just written so I just sat and stared at the screen grinning like a madwoman thinking “ok then” my muse must have been strong that day. -Has writing affected the way you read or the types of books you read? No, I am very much a varied reader and a great believer in if the story is good and I am enjoying it then who cares if it’s not written technically perfect. I don’t pick apart someone’s writing style because it doesn’t adhere to “the writing rules” I have read enough technically perfect books to know a lot of them are quite boring. -Finally tell me about your latest/upcoming book. My book Immortal magic book will ne available skkn by Ausin Macauley Publishers on paperback and kindle in ever major place that carries books. Book two im not sure how quickly they will want it. The whole trilogy if filled with secrets and imprtant things leading to the dinal battle. It is a paranormal story based around the forbidden epic love between Angel a white witch and Michael De Marco a vampire. The first book is told from Angel’s perspective as she attempts to deal with her love for Michael and how they both have to fight shady underworld figures, a wiccan high council and even humans to be together. In book two it’s told from both Angel and Michael’s perspective so we get to know him a lot more. I don’t want to give too much away from book two as if you haven’t read book one it would spoil the ending. I have created a blog however that gives readers insight into all the characters on my stage that isn’t in the books i.e character profiles, pictures etc. There’s also a playlist for the book and each song on it corresponds with the book start to finish. You can check it out at immortalmagictrilogy.blogspot.com I’m always trying to blog but im not great at it haha Ive mainly been concentrating on Instagram though and I need a website. To sum my books up is a beautiful love story with plenty of action and supernatural characters. I would say even if you’re not a big fan of the vampire genre then as long as you were a fan of romance novels you will still like it. So how does it feel to be hailed as tne next big thing or your book the next big thing? Completley overwhelming. Im not even famous yet and its already kinda crazy. Well all the commercial sucsess in the world and its certainly one ill be buying. Thank you for your time today. Thank you for yours Suzie.
